The Flaming Scissor, located in Sunnyvale, California, is owned and operated by Buffy Whalen.

Buffy’s design career began at age nine when she created doll clothes, pillows and bedding. She launched her custom sewing business at 13, and through junior college created and sold unique garments and fabric gift items.

After many years working in the hi-tech industry, Buffy opened her fashion design studio, and in 1994 made the transition from fashion design to custom sewing for the home. She gained experience in her positions at EXPO Design Center and JC Penney as a custom decorator and educator. She has over 14 years professional experience designing window treatments and soft furnishings.

Inspired by travels to Italy, and participation in Renaissance Faire festivities, she now offers custom women’s renaissance bodices, chemises, and skirts. This addition satisfies her passion for detail and fine fabrics unusually found in soft home furnishings.

Educated in Fashion Design and Interior Design, Buffy understands the design process from concept development to completion. She has passion for working with fine fabrics, an eye for color, and talent for coordinating fabric colors, patterns and textures. Combined with her precise workmanship, she delivers only the finest products to accomplish her ultimate goal of complete customer satisfaction.
